If you are really a cigar lover, the best way to learn about cigars is by go to a tobacconist and checking out various types of cigars. Unlike cigarettes, which consist of filters and tobacco, cigars are made of all tobacco and don’t have many component parts.
The type of tobacco is the main aspect that makes one cigar different from another. The type of tobacco includes many different aspects such as where it’s grown, the time of picking up of leaves, the way these picked leaves are processed and fermented, and the way these finished leaves are cut and then rolled.
Cigars are made in many different parts of the world. That makes cigars more diverse in look, size, price, and taste. To learn more about cigars, let’s see some aspects of cigars.
The outer layer of cigars is known as the wrapper. This wrapper is made using the widest part of the tobacco leaves. The flavor and aroma of cigars depends upon the wrapper.
Cigar wrappers come in many color and since the color of the wrapper is the most visible part, cigars are often described by the color of wrapper they have. Some of the most popular wrapper colors are:
Double Claro- This is very light color and sometimes it comes with a little green tinge. This kind of color comes if the immature tobacco leaves are picked and cured quickly.
Another color is Claro. It’s a light-brown color. This type of color comes if the tobacco plants are grown in shade. Natural color is a light-brown or brown color. Similarly there are Colorado Claro--medium-brown, Colorado (or Rosado) color—it’s reddish-brown color.
Then comes Maduro color, it’s a dark-brown color and is very popular among serious aficionados of cigars. And finally there is Oscuro. This color is very dark and range from brown to oily black. It’s known for strong aroma and deeper flavor.
Apart from wrappers, another part of cigars is fillers. Cigars are composed mostly of filler tobacco. There are three basic types of fillers-- Volado, Seco, and Ligero. Cigars that have Seco filler are relatively drier and they have a lighter flavor. On the other hand, Volado filler have a mid-range of flavor. But the Ligero are known for their darkest and oiliest fillers that produce lots of bold flavors as well as aromatic smoke.
People choose thicker cigars such as Churchill or Double Corona cigars, for instance, is that these cigars have enough room for filler tobacco. This gives cigar manufactures the room to add different blends such as Seco, Volado, or Ligero types. This is the reason these thicker cigars usually produce more complex flavor combinations.
Apart from these aspects there are other factors such as binders etc. so, now must have got some inner view of cigars and that why these cigars vary in look and taste.
